Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch (hĕr´män shŏŏl´tsə-dā´lĬch), 1808–83, German liberal politician and economic reformer. Believing in economic self-help by cooperative associations, he founded peoples' banks, mercantile and consumers' cooperatives, and, in 1859, a general association of German cooperatives. In 1867 he obtained passage of a Prussian law protecting associations. A nationalist, he was one of the founders of the Nationalverein, an organization that favored German unification. He was a member of the Prussian lower house from 1861, of the North German diet from 1867, and of the Reichstag from 1871.
