Laelius, Caius

Caius Laelius (kā´əs lē´lēəs), d. c.160 BC, Roman general, consul in 190 BC He was the intimate friend and companion of Scipio Africanus Major from youth, and he held command under him in numerous campaigns. His son Caius Laelius Sapiens, b. c.186 BC, consul in 140 BC, was famous for his friendship with Scipio Africanus Minor. Cicero named one of his great works Laelius; sive, De amicitia [Laelius; or, on friendship].
