Saburo Kurusu (sä´bōōrō´ kōōrōō´sōō), 1886–1954, Japanese career diplomat. As ambassador to Germany from 1939 to 1941, he signed the Berlin Pact (Sept., 1940). A special envoy to Washington, he and Admiral Nomura were negotiating when Pearl Harbor was bombed on Dec. 7, 1941. Interned in the United States from Dec., 1941, to June, 1942, he returned to Japan and became (1945) a professor at Tokyo Univ.
