Espanola
Espanola (ĕs´pənyōl´ə), city (1990 pop. 8,389), Rio Arriba and Santa Fe counties., N central N.Mex., on the Rio Grande, in the heart of pueblo country; founded 1880, inc. 1964. A shipping point for sheep and cattle, it produces pumice, lumber, and concrete. A fiesta every July commemorates the nearby establishment of a settlement by Juan de Oñate on July 11, 1598. Scenic, historic, archaeological, and Native American sites abound in the area.
