Rex Brasher (brā´shər), 1869–1960, American artist and naturalist, b. Brooklyn, N.Y., grad. St. Francis College, Brooklyn, 1884. A self-taught artist, he devoted his life to making life-size paintings of all North American birds in their natural colors. The first edition of his Birds & Trees of North America (12 vol.), with plates hand-colored by Brasher himself, appeared in 1929. The vast majority of his paintings are now at the Univ. of Connecticut, Storrs.
