(also buckeye butterfly) an orange and brown New World butterfly (Junonia coenia, family Nymphalidae) with conspicuous eyespots on the wings. 3. (Buckeye) inf. a native of the state of Ohio (with reference to Ohio's abundance of buckeye trees).
