Shooting Heads

I find that shooting heads are useful in salmon, steelhead, and float tube fishing. I prefer a twenty to thirty pound monofilament shooting line. Amnesia is my brand of choice because I can easily straighten out most kinks and coils simply by stretching the line.

Flyfishers can easily make long casts

of 80 to 100 feet by carefully coiling the mono. One or two false casts are all that are needed to propel the line. These shooting heads come in most of the standard line sizes and sink rates. Here I like a line size one or two sizes heavier than my rods size. Again a wide variety of sink rates allow you to suspend the fly at the desired depths.
