Valladares, Tomás (?–c.1850)

Tomás Valladares (d. after 1850), Nicaraguan politician. Active in the confusing era of the breakdown of the United Provinces of Central America, Valladares served as a senator and then president of the Chamber of Deputies in Nicaragua. He was interim chief of state from 1840 to 1841 and subsequently continued to participate in politics. As one of Nicaragua's leading liberals, Valladares served on a junta with Evaristo Rocha, Patricio Rivas, Hilario Ulloa, and Joaquín Caso in the 1840s and was a lieutenant in the wars against José Rafael Carrera, which tore apart the isthmus at mid-century.
