Massera, José Pedro (1866–1942)

José Pedro Massera (b. 1866; d. 1942), Uruguayan philosopher, professor, and politician. From 1887 to 1927 Massera taught philosophy at the University of the Republic in Montevideo. His only published work during his lifetime was Reflexiones sobre Rodó (1920), but various of his essays were published posthumously, on subjects such as the works of Carlos Vaz Ferreira and Ribot, moral values, and moral philosophy. In 1937 he gave up teaching to pursue a political career in the national Senate.
