FAO PENINSULA

The southernmost tip of Iraq.

The Fao Peninsula lies between the Shatt al-Arab and Bubiyan Island. It became the site of the landing place of the submarine cable to India in 1964, of an oil port in 1951, of an offshore oil rig, and of heavy fighting (February 1986 to April 1987) during the IranIraq War.
