Major League ★★½ 1989 (R)

Comedy about the Cleveland Indians, a pathetic major league baseball team whose new owner, ex-showgirl Rachel (Wilton) who inherited from her late hubby, schemes to lose the season and relocate the team to Miami. Sheen is okay as pitcher Ricky “Wild Thing” Vaughan, who suffers with control problems (both on and off the field), while Bernsen (as third baseman Roger Dorn) seems to be gazing affectionately at “L.A. Law” from a distance. Predictable sports spoof is good for a few laughs, particularly those scenes involving Haysbert as slugger Pedro Cerrano with voodoo on his mind (and in his locker) and Snipes as base stealer Willie Mays Hayes, whose only problem is getting on base. Followed by two sequels. 107m/C VHS, DVD . Tom Berenger, Charlie Sheen, Corbin Bernsen, James Gammon, Margaret Whitton, Bob Uecker, Rene Russo, Wesley Snipes, Dennis Haysbert, Charles Cyphers, Chelcie Ross; D: David S. Ward; W: David S. Ward; C: Reynaldo Villalobos; M: James Newton Howard.
