Kilsyth, battle of, 1645. Six days after Baillie had been beaten by Montrose at Alford, outside Aberdeen, in July 1645, a covenanting parliament assembled at Stirling. Montrose moved southwards to harass it, with a force of 5,000 men. Baillie was confirmed in his command and faced him at Kilsyth, south of Stirling on 15 August, with an army of 7,000. The covenanters were caught while still deploying and suffered very heavy casualties. But it was the last of Montrose's victories.
