Lumière, Louis Jean and Auguste Two brothers, Louis Jean (1864–1948) and Auguste (1862–1954), pioneers of cinematography. Together they invented an early combination of motion-picture camera and projector called the Cinématographe. Their film Lunch Break at the Lumière Factory (1895) is generally considered to be the first motion picture. They made numerous short films, each only 30 seconds or a minute in length. By 1895, the brothers had made improvements in colour photography. See also cinema
