Buxtehude, Diderik
Buxtehude, Diderik ( Dietrich) (1637–1707) Danish organist and composer known for his organ and church music. He was organist at Lübeck, Germany, and became well-known for his evening concerts, Abendmusik, for which he composed many works. He wrote many sacred choral works, especially cantatas, a large number of organ compositions and much chamber music. J. S. Bach was greatly influenced by him.
