British Medical Association (BMA) UK professional body founded in 1832; 66% of all doctors in Britain are members. The BMA was set up to advance the medical sciences. Since the establishment of the National Health Service (NHS) in 1948, it has also negotiated over pay and conditions for hospital doctors and general practitioners.
