De Carlo, Yvonne 1924–2007

Original name, Margaret (some sources cite Peggy) Yvonne Middleton; born September 1, 1924 (some sources cite 1922), in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; died January 8, 2007, in Woodland Hills, CA. Actress. De Carlo began her film career in the early 1940s in a number of small, uncredited roles. She landed her first title role in 1945 in Salome, Where She Danced. This was followed by leading roles in such films as Slave Girl, River Lady and Calamity Jane and Sam Bass. By the 1950s De Carlo had a busy film career. She appeared in The Desert Hawk, Scarlet Angel, Death of a Scoundrel, and many others before her notable performance as Sephora in The Ten Commandments in 1956. Another key performance was as Amanda Starr in Band of Angels in 1957. Though De Carlo continued to work in films in the 1960s and 1970s, she began focusing on television. She may be best remembered for her role as Lily Munster in the comedic television series The Munsters, which aired from 1964 to 1966. De Carlo reprised this role in two made-for-television movies as well as a feature film. In 1987 De Carlo published her memoir. Her final appearance was in the television movie The Barefoot Executive in 1995.
