Community Environment: Banner Elk is in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina, 100 miles from Charlotte and 83 miles northeast of Asheville. Elk River is nearby for trout fishing, and during the winter there is sufficient snow for outdoor winter sports.
