Halifax Community College was founded in 1967. It is accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It first offered distance learning courses in 1999. In fall 2004, there were 934 students enrolled in distance learning courses. Institutionally administered financial aid is available to distance learners.

Non-credit— business administration, management and operations; computer software and media applications; computer systems networking and telecommunications; data entry/microcomputer applications; education (specific levels and methods).
