Judge Sidney M. Aronovitz Memorial Scholarships (High School/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to Miami-Dade County minority students planning to continue their education at the university level and pursue a career in South Florida. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be minority high school seniors or GED recipients no older than 19 years of age attending a Miami Dade County public school with a minimum high school grade point average of 3.0. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on personal statement/goals; recommendations; academic achievement; financial need; and, volunteer/work experience.

Funds Avail.: $500. Number Awarded: 1. To Apply: Applicants must submit the completed application form and enclose all proper attachments. Deadline: March 19.

Jennet Colliflower Nursing Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to students in their junior or senior year of undergraduate nursing degree, who are Florida residents and enrolled full-time in a Florida public or private university. Focus: Nursing. Qualif.: Applicants must be entering junior or senior year undergraduate studies; must be full-time students (minimum of 12 credits hours per semester) in a public or private four-year Florida university or college; and, must be seeking an undergraduate degree in Nursing. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the volunteer experience, work experience and school activities; academic achievement; financial need; and, personal aspirations/career goals and relationship with nursing.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. Number Awarded: 2. To Apply: Applicants must submit the completed application form along with the required materials. Deadline: May 7.

The Continental Group Scholarship Fund (High School/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide educational opportunities for the children of current, full-time employees of The Continental Group, Inc and its subsidiaries. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be high school seniors graduating in 2008 with a minimum 3.0 grade point average and have a parent who is a fulltime employee of The Continental Group, Inc. or one of its Subsidiaries for at least one year. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on financial need.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. Number Awarded: 4. To Apply: Applicants must submit all the required application information. Deadline: March 27.

Alan R. Epstein “Reach for the Stars” Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to deserving students in Dade County who have successfully dealt with life’s obstacles. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be high school seniors graduating in June. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on financial need.

Funds Avail.: $10,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit completed application form; high school official transcript; college acceptance letter(s); two letters of recommendation; volunteer/work experience and school activities; personal statement; one or two paragraphs describing the importance of scholarship. Deadline: April 11.

Randy Green Memorial Scholarship Fund (High School/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to students at Miami Springs Senior High School who are enrolled in a college program related to public education, political science, history or social work. Focus: Political science; economics; Social work. Qualif.: Applicants must be permanent residents or citizens of the U.S. and domiciled in South Florida; must have minimum high school grade point average of 3.0; must be Miami Springs high-school seniors demonstrating merit and financial need; must be accepted into accredited university and plan to be enrolled in two year or four year university programs concentrating in public education, political science, history, social work, or other major related to community service. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on academic achievement; personal statement/career goals; volunteer/work experience and school activities; recommendations; and financial need.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. Number Awarded: 2. To Apply: Applicants must submit the completed application form and all other required application information. Deadline: June 3.

Dr. Felix H. Reyler Memorial Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to business students entering their junior/senior year of undergraduate studies. Focus: Business; Finance. Qualif.: Applicants must be permanent residents or citizens of the U.S. and domiciled in Florida; must be business students entering their junior/senior year of undergraduate studies; must be students graduating from the Academy for International Business and Finance at Miami Jackson Senior High and the children of FIBA members; must be currently or enrolling as full-time students in four-year Florida college/university and seeking for a degree in Business. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on financial need; academic achievement; personal aspirations/career goals and interests within Business and Finance; volunteer/work experience; and, school activities.

Funds Avail.: $2,500. Number Awarded: 2. To Apply: Applicants must submit completed application form; personal statement; official transcript; original recommendation letter on school letterhead; and, one photocopy of the entire completed application. Deadline: April 25.

Samalot - Sebastian Scholarship Fund (High School/Scholarship)

Purpose: To support minority high school students in need of financial assistance. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be permanent residents or citizens of the U.S. and domiciled in South Florida; must have minimum high school grade point average of 3.5; must be enrolling as full-time students (minimum of 12 credit hours per semester) in a four-year college/university. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on merit and financial need.

Funds Avail.: $2,000. Number Awarded: 3. To Apply: Applicants must submit all the required application information. Deadline: April 4.

Leo Suarez Journalism Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To help talented South Florida students for aspiring a career in journalism, broadcast or mass communications. Focus: Journalism; Broadcasting; Communications.

Qualif.: Applicants must be high school seniors in Miami-Dade or Broward public school; must have minimum of 3.0 grade point average; must intend to major in journalism, broadcast or mass communications in undergraduate studies at four year university and/or two year college. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on career goals; writing samples; teacher recommendation; and academic achievement.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit the completed application form together with the three writing samples that have been published and letter of recommendation from the journalism sponsor or English professor at their high school. Deadline: March 21.

The Rodney Thaxton Justice Fund (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist students pursuing career in the insurance industry and business. Focus: Business; Insurance and insurance-related fields. Qualif.: Applicants must be high school seniors with minimum high school grade point average of 3.0 who have interest in pursuing career in business or the insurance industry. Criteria: Applicants are evaluated based on personal statement/goals, essay on ethics; academic achievement; volunteer/work experience.

Jacki Tuckfield Memorial Graduate Business Scholarship Fund (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to African-American students to pursue their professional careers. Focus: Business. Qualif.: Applicants must be African American United States citizen, resident of South Florida, enrolled in a graduate business degree program (master’s or doctoral), at Florida University during the Fall, Winter, Spring or Summer term of the 2008-2009 academic year; must be planning to pursue professional career in South Florida. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on merit.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit the completed application form; essay; transcripts; color passport photo; letter of recommendation; and resume. Deadline: May 25.

Seitlin Franklin E. Wheeler Scholarship Fund (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist students pursuing careers in the insurance industry and business. Focus: Insurance and insurance-related fields; Business. Qualif.: Applicants must be high school seniors with minimum high school grade point average of 3.0 and demonstrate interest in pursuing career in business or the insurance industry.
