Jim Allard Broadcast Journalism Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide financial assistance to deserving students enrolled in a broadcast journalism course. Focus: Journalism. Qualif.: Applicants must be aspiring broadcasters enrolled in broadcast journalism courses at a Canadian college or university. Criteria: Recipient will be judged based on academic standing and natural talent.

Funds Avail.: $2,500. To Apply: Applicant must provide a 500-word essay outlining why they are interested in broadcast journalism, career goals, and how the scholarship can help them to attain their goal; must submit a signed recommendation from the course director. Deadline: June 30.

Remarks: Established in 1963 by the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, in memory of T.J. Allard, its long-time executive vicepresident.

BBM Canada Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide support to qualified individuals who want to pursue their career in broadcasting. Focus: Broadcasting. Qualif.: Applicant must be enrolled in a graduate studies program, or be in the final year of an honors degree with the intention of entering a graduate program, anywhere in Canada. Criteria: Recipient will be selected based on the demonstrated achievement in and knowledge of statistical and/or quantitative research methodology in a course of study at a Canadian university or post-secondary institution.

Funds Avail.: $4,000. To Apply: Applicant must submit a 250-word essay outlining their interest in and thoughts on audience research; must provide a recommendation from their course director. Application forms are available online and must be sent together with the application requirements to BBM Canada Scholarship, c/o The Canadian Association of Broadcasters, PO Box 627, Sta. B, Ottawa, ON K1P 5S2. Deadline: June 30.

Ruth Hancock Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To provide support to qualified individuals who want to pursue their career in broadcasting or broadcast sales/marketing. Focus: Broadcasting. Qualif.: Applicant must be a student enrolled in a recognized communication or marketing course in Canada; must have strong character and leadership qualities; must have a willingness to assist others; must have a genuine interest in pursuing a broadcasting career, as reflected in extracurricular activities related to broadcasting or broadcast sales/marketing, and/or self-initiated undertakings; must have community involvement and/or volunteer work. Criteria: Recipient will be selected based on the criteria of the Scholarship Selection Committee.

Funds Avail.: $1,500. To Apply: Applicant must provide 500-word outline and a signed recommendation from their course director.
