Robson, Philip Appleby
Robson, Philip Appleby (1871–1951). English architect, the son of E. R. Robson. He was articled to Pearson, assisting the latter at Truro Cathedral, before joining his father. He later worked for various Government Departments before establishing his own practice. Like his father he built many London schools, but his planning on tight urban sites was even more ingenious. He was responsible for a whole series of handsome Queen Anne style tall-windowed brick and terracotta buildings that enliven parts of London. Among his works are St George's School, South Street (1898–9), St Gabriel's College, Camberwell (1899–1903), both in London, and the Eastbourne School of Art, Sussex (1903–4) He published School Planning (1911) and Architecture as a Career (1929).
