Qavam al-Din Shirazi

Qavam al-Din Shirazi (fl 1410–38). Iranian architect. He designed the madrasa at Herat (1410–11—destroyed) and the shrine of 'Abdallah Ansari at Gazur Gah, near Herat (completed 1428–9). He was probably responsible for the Friday Mosque and shrine at Mashdad (completed 1417–18). His best–preserved work is the Ghiyathiyya madrasa, Khargird (completed 1444–5). His are the architectural master-works of the period of Timurid rule (1370–1506) in eastern Iran and Transoxiana, especially in relation to vault construction.
