imbrication. Scale-pattern, or petal-diaper ornament resembling a surface covered with scale-like curved roofing-tiles, found on Antique sarcophagi-lids and on the roof of the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates, Athens (334 bc). It is also used on terracotta panels, screens, tracery, etc., and resembles a construction of imbrices (see imbrex) piled on top of each other.
