Feuerstein, Bedřich

Feuerstein, Bedřich (1892–1936). Czech architect. Educated in Prague, he designed several important buildings after the formation of Czechoslovakia, including the Military Geographic Institute, Prague-Bubenec (1921–2), a somewhat heavy version of vaguely stripped Classicism. Feuerstein was associated with Behne, Chochol, and other members of the Prague avant-garde. His Nymburk Crematorium (1921–3—with Bohumil Sláma (1887–1961) ) is regarded as one of his best buildings, reminiscent of the severe, stripped stereometrically pure forms advocated in the late C18, and influenced by Purism. He later worked with Perret in Paris and Raymond in Tokyo (where he designed the Soviet Embassy (1928) and St Lucas Hospital (1928–30)).
