liaison psychiatry
liaison psychiatry (lee-ay-zŏn) n. the speciality that provides an interface between medicine and psychiatry. Liaison teams, consisting of psychiatric nurses, psychiatrists, and sometimes psychologists or social workers, are usually located in general hospitals and see patients after deliberate self-harm and when a mental illness is suspected in order to diagnose and advise on treatment.
