SIDELIGHTS: Debbie Raleigh told CA: "My love for writing began at a very young age and was influenced heavily by writers such as Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer, and George Bernard Shaw. Their clever wit and ability to capture the foolishness of human vanity has always fascinated me. To be able to capture characters that transcend generations is a goal I am always striving to meet. Such writers also influenced my decision to write during the Regency period. I love the drawing-room comedies that can make a reader laugh at the same time they can help a reader to consider the changes that have occurred in both political and social norms. My trilogy, A Convenient Marriage, A Proper Marriage, and A Scandalous Marriage, deals with the expected roles of women in marriage during the early 1800s as well as the social reactions to strong-willed women who dare to step out of the traditional mold."
