"I outline first, then research, then write, rewrite, rewrite, rewrite. I need to take care of all my other business before I start. I like to begin by mid-morning and end by mid-afternoon. The rest of the time I think about what I'll write next.

"My wife, an animal advocate, inspired me to write about the horrors of bullfighting."
