SIDELIGHTS:

Adrian Finkelstein is a noted psychiatrist working at the Malibu Holistic Health Center in Malibu, California, and also as an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of California at Los Angeles. A staunch believer in the concept of reincarnation, Finkelstein is perhaps best known for his writings on the subject, including Your Past Lives and the Healing Process: A Psychiatrist Looks at Reincarnation and Spiritual Healing and Marilyn Monroe Returns: The Healing of a Soul. In the latter work, Finkelstein states his belief that Marilyn Monroe was reincarnated, and that she has returned in the form of Sherrie Lea Laird, a professional singer from Canada. Laird, who was born within a year of Monroe's death, suffered from flashbacks that seemed to come from a previous life. The book goes on to present evidence in support of Finkelstein's claim that Laird is a reincarnated Monroe, including information garnered from Laird under hypnosis, during which time Finkelstein performed past-life regressions on the singer and videotaped the results. He goes on to look at the concept of reincarnation from a scientific point of view. A reviewer for PR Newswire remarked that "you don't have to be a believer to be fascinated by this detective story of a doctor and patient team in search of Marilyn, and even outright skeptics will be intrigued by the eerie similarities between Marilyn and Sherrie Lea."
