PERSONAL: Born 1873, in the Netherlands; died May 18, 1957, in Grand Rapids, MI; son of Jan Geesje (terPooten) Berkhof; immigrated to the United States, c. 1881. Education: Theological Schools of the Christian Reformed Church (now Calvin College and Calvin Theological Seminary), graduated, 1900; Princeton Theological Seminary, B.D.


CAREER: Ordained Christian Reformed minister, c. 1990; pastor of Christian Reformed churches in Allendale, MI, and Grand Rapids, MI; Calvin Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, MI, professor of biblical theology, 1906-14, professor of New Testament, 1914-26, professor of systematic theology, 1926-44, appointed president of the seminary, 1931. Princeton Theological Seminary, Stone Lecturer. Reformed Ecumenical Synod, president of first assembly, 1946.
