Wierzbillowicz, Alexander
Wierzbillowicz, Alexander, Polish cellist and pedagogue; b. St. Petersburg (of Polish parents), Jan. 8, 1850; d. there, March 15, 1911. He studied in Warsaw and was a student of Davidov at the St. Petersburg Cons. In 1885 he became 1st cellist in the orch. of the Imperial Opera in St. Petersburg. He also made highly successful tours of Europe as a soloist, and also played in various chamber music settings. In 1889 he became prof, of cello at the St. Petersburg Cons.
