Westerhoff, Christian Wilhelm, German violinist, violisi, and composer; b. Osnabrück, 1763; d. Bückeburg, Jan. 26, 1806. He was reared in a musical family. After serving as an instrumentalist at the Burgsteinfurt court (1786-90), he toured as a virtuoso. About 1795 he became Konzertmeister at the Schaumburg-Lippe court in Bückeburg. He composed a Simphonie concertante for Clarinet, Bassoon, and Orch. (c. 1793), a Sym. (1800), various concertos, including a Bassoon Concerto (1794), 2 flute concertos (1794, 1799), 3 viola concertos (c. 1795), 3 clarinet concertos (1798, 1799, 1807), a Cello Concerto (1800), and a Double Bass Concerto (1800), and several chamber pieces.
