Walmisley, Thomas Forbes

Walmisley, Thomas Forbes, English organist, teacher, and composer, father of Thomas Attwood Walmisley; b. London, May 22, 1783; d. there, July 23, 1866. He was a chorister at Westminster Abbey, and studied with John Spencer and Thomas Attwood. He was active as a teacher of piano and singing (from 1803), and later organist at the Female Orphan Asylum (1810-14) and at St. Martin-in-the-Fields (1814-54). He was a popular composer of glees, and publ. 3 sets containing 6 glees each. He also publ. A Collection of Glees, Trios, Rounds and Canons (1826) and several single glees and songs, and ed. T.A. Walmisley: Cathedral Music, a Collection of Services and Anthems (London, 1875).
