Travers, John, English organist and composer; b. probably in Windsor, c. 1703; d. London, June 1758. He was probably a chorister of St. George’s Chapel, Windsor. He was apprenticed to Maurice Greene in 1719, and also a pupil of J.C. Pepusch; was an organist at the Royal Chapel (1737-58). He publ. The Whole Book of Psalms for 1 to 5 Voices and Harpsichord (London, c. 1746-50) and 18 Canzonets for 2 to 3 Voices and Harpsichord (London, 1746); also various other sacred and secular works and 12 Voluntaries for Organ or Harpsichord (London, c. 1769).
