Rubio (Calzón), Samuel , Spanish musicologist; b. Posada de Ornano, Oct. 20, 1912; d. Madrid, March 15, 1986. He entered the Augustinian order and was active in various monasteries. He received instruction in philosophy, theology, Gregorian chant, and other subjects, and later went to Rome to study sacred music and musicology at the Pontificio Instituto di Musica Sacra (1952–55) and musicology with Anglès at the Univ. (Ph.D., 1967, with the diss. Cristóbal de Morales; publ. in El Escoriai, 1969). After serving as organist and choirmaster at the Escoriai (1939–59; 1971–72), he was prof. of musicology at the Madrid Cons. (from 1972). He was the ed. of the collected works of Juan de Anchieta and Juan Navarro.
