Rogier, Philippe
Rogier, Philippe , Flemish composer; b. Arras, c. 1561; d. Madrid, Feb. 29, 1596. He became a boy treble at the court of King Philip II in Madrid in 1572. He later entered the priesthood and served as a chaplain of the royal chapel. After serving as vice-maestro de capilla (1584–86), he was maestro de capilla (from 1586) at the court. He also held several non- residential benefices. Rogier was highly regarded by his contemporaries, and composed some 250 works. Among his extant compositions are several masses, motets, and chansons.
