Rhené-Baton (real name, René Baton)
Rhené-Baton (real name, René Baton) , French conductor and composer; b. Courseulles-sur-Mer, Calvados, Sept. 5, 1879; d. Le Mans, Sept. 23, 1940. He studied piano at the Paris Cons. and theory privately with Gédalge. He began his conducting career as a chorus master at the Opéra-Comique in Paris; then conducted various concert groups in Angers and Bordeaux. From 1916 to 1932 he was principal conductor of the Concerts Pasdeloup in Paris. He composed orch. pieces, chamber music, and a number of songs.
