Rautio, Nina , Russian soprano; b. Bryansk, Sept. 21, 1957. She was trained at the Leningrad Cons. From 1981 to 1987 she appeared at the Leningrad State Theater. In 1987 she joined the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, with which she toured widely in Russia and Eastern Europe. In 1991 she sang Tatiana with the company during its visit to the Metropolitan Opera in N.Y., and also appeared as Oksana in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Christmas Eve during its engagement at the Edinburgh Festival. During the 1992–93 season, she sang Lisa in The Queen of Spades at the Opéra de la Bastille in Paris. She was engaged as Aida at the Berlin State Opera in the 1994–95 season. On Oct. 3, 1995, she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera in N.Y. as Aida, a role she then sang in Verona in 1996. She made her first appearance at the San Francisco Opera as Elisabeth in Don Carlos in 1998.
