Prey, Claude

Prey, Claude , French composer; b. Fleury-sur-Andelle, May 30, 1925; d. Paris, Feb. 14, 1998. He received training in piano and organ before settling in Paris in 1945, where he studied letters and aesthetics at the Sorbonne. In 1947 he entered the Cons. and took courses with Messiaen (harmony) and Milhaud (composition). He completed his training with Mignone in Rio de Janeiro, with Frazzi in Siena, and at Laval Univ. in Quebec. In 1963 he won the Prix Italia for his chamber opera Le Coeur révélateur.
