Pons, José , Spanish composer; b. Gerona, c. 1768; d. Valencia, Aug. 2, 1818. He was a choirboy at Gerona Cathedral, where he studied with Jaime Balius. hi 1791 he was made choirmaster at Córdoba Cathedral, and soon thereafter he was named its vice-choirmaster. From 1793 he served as choirmaster at Valencia Cathedral. Pons was esteemed by his contemporaries for his compositions for the church.
