Person, Eric

Person, Eric, jazz alto saxophonist; b. St. Louis, Mo., May 2,1963. His father, Thomas Person, is a saxophonist. Eric went through the Normandy H.S. music program in St. Louis, then attended the St. Louis Conservatory of Music. Since his arrival in N.Y. in the early 1980s, he has worked with the John Hicks Big Band, Ronald Shannon Jackson’s Decoding Society, Chico Hamilton, McCoy Tyner Big Band, Woody Shaw, Kelvyn Bell, Jackie McLean, World Saxophone Quartet, and the rock band Living Colour; he also toured and recorded for three years with The Dave Holland Quartet. Since the formation of his current working ensemble, Meta-Four, he has performed all over the U.S. and Canada. In fall 1997, he toured Europe with Michiel Borstlap; he also appeared on singer/guitarist Ben Harper’s popular album, The Will to Live, touring with Harper in France and performing on Quincy Jones’s Vibe TV show. He has played on film scores with Chico Hamilton, including A Practical Man.
