Panenka, Jan
Panenka, Jan, Czech pianist and teacher; b. Prague, July 8,1922. He was a student of Maxián in Prague and of Serebryakov in Leningrad. In 1944 he made his debut in Prague. After winning the Prague Piano Competition in 1951, he toured widely as a soloist. He devoted much time to chamber music, serving as a member of the Suk Trio of Prague from 1957. He also taught at the Prague Academy of Music. In 1972 he was made an Artist of Merit by the Czech government.
