Nicolini
Nicolini [ Grimaldi, Nicolino] (b Naples, 1673; d Naples, 1732). It. castrato contralto. Sang in It. 1694–1708, being closely assoc. with operas of A. Scarlatti. Went to London where he achieved enormous success 1708–11 and 1714–18. Sang in many of Handel's operas and created roles of Rinaldo (1711) and Amadigi (1715). Returned to It. to sing in opera in Rome, Venice, and Naples.
