Netti, Paul

Netti, Paul, eminent Czech-born American musicologist, father of Bruno Netti; b. Hohenelbe, Bohemia, Jan. 10, 1889; d. Bloomington, Ind., Jan. 8, 1972. He studied jurisprudence (Jur.D., 1913) and musicology (Ph.D., 1915) at the German Univ. of Prague, where from 1920 to 1937 he was on the faculty. In 1939 he emigrated to the U.S., becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1945. After teaching at Westminster Choir Coll. and in N.Y. and Philadelphia, he was a prof. of musicology at Indiana Univ. in Bloomington (1946–59); remained a part-time teacher there until 1963.
