Nelson, John (Wilton)
Nelson, John (Wilton), American conductor; b. San Jose, Costa Rica (of American parents), Dec. 6, 1941. He studied at Wheaton (III.) Coll. and with Morel at the Juilliard School of Music in N.Y. He was music director of the Indianapolis Sym. Orch. (1976–87), the Caramoor Festival in Katonah, N.Y. (1983–90), and the Opera Theatre of St. Louis (1985–91). In 1998 he became music director of the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris.
