Monferrato, Natale
Monferrato, Natale, Italian organist, teacher, and composer; b. Venice, c. 1603; d. there, before April 23, 1685. He spent his entire life in Venice. After entering the priesthood, he was a singer (1639–47), vice-maestro di cappella (1647–76), and maestro di cappella (from 1676) at San Marco. He also taught at the Cons, dei Mendicanti and was active in a publing venture with Giuseppe Sala. Monferrato became best known as a composer of motets and Psalms.
