Mel, Rinaldo del

Mel, Rinaldo del, Flemish composer; b. Mechlin, c. 1554; d. c. 1598. He was a pupil of Séverin Cornet at the St. Rombaud Cathedral choir school (1562–72). About 1572 he became mestre de capela at the Lisbon court. By 1580 he was in Rome. After serving as maestro di cappella at Rieti Cathedral (1584–85), he traveled widely. In 1587–88 he was maestro di cappella to Duke Ernst of Bavaria in Liège, and then returned to Italy, where he was in the service of Paleotto Magliano (1591–96). He publ. 4 vols, of motets (1581–95) and at least 13 vols, of madrigals (1583–96).
