Lulier, Giovanni Lorenzo

Lulier, Giovanni Lorenzo, Italian cellist and composer; b. c. 1650; d. Rome, c. 1700. He was a pupil of Pietro Simone Agostini in Rome, where he pursued his career. He was in the service of Cardinal Pietro Ot- toboni, and then director of the private orch. of Cardinal Benedetto Pamphili. Lulier was particularly esteemed as a cellist. Among his works were the operas II Clearco in Negroponte (Rome, 1695; in collaboration with B. Gaffi and Cesarini) and Fausta restituita all’impero (Rome, Jan. 19, 1697), oratorios, cantatas, and other vocal works.
