Lamperti, Francesco

Lamperti, Francesco, eminent Italian singing teacher, father of Giovanni Battista Lamperti; b. Savona, March 11, 1811; d. Cernobbio, May 1, 1892. He studied at the Milan Cons. He was director at the Teatro Filodrammatico in Lodi. He tutored many distinguished singers, including Albani, Artot, both Cruvelis, Campanini, Collini, and Lagrange. He also taught at the Milan Cons. (1850–75). He publ. Guida teorico-pratico-elementare per lo studi del canto, Studi di bravura per soprano, Esercizi giornalieri per soprano o mezzo-soprano, L’arte del canto, Osservazioni e consigli sul trillo, Solfeggi, etc. Two of his methods and studies in voice production have also appeared in Eng. ed.: Studies in Bravura Singing for the Soprano Voice (N.Y., 1875) and A Treatise on the Art of Singing (London, 1877; rev. ed., N.Y., 1890).
