Kreutzer, Jean Nicolas Auguste

Kreutzer, Jean Nicolas Auguste, French violinist and composer, brother of Rodolphe Kreutzer and father of Léon Charles François Kreutzer; b. Versailles, Sept. 3, 1778; d. Paris, Aug. 31, 1832. He studied with his brother at the Paris Cons, (premier prix, 1801). He played in the orch. of the Théâtre Favart (from 1798) and of the Opéra (from 1800), and also in the imperial chapel orch. (1804–30). He taught at the Paris Cons., later taking over his brother’s class there (1826). He publ. a number of works for violin, including 2 concertos, 3 sonatas, duos, etc.
