Kord, Kazimierz

Kord, Kazimierz, Polish conductor; b. Pogórze, Nov. 18, 1930. He studied piano at the Leningrad Cons., then took courses in composition and conducting at the Kraków Academy of Music. He conducted at the Warsaw Opera (1960–62), and from 1962 to 1970 was artistic director of the Kraków Opera. From 1968 to 1973 he was chief conductor of the Polish Radio and Television Sym. Orch. in Katowice. He was chief conductor with the National Phil, in Warsaw (from 1977) as well as principal guest conductor of the Cincinnati Sym. Orch. (1980–82), chief conductor of the South-West Radio Sym. Orch. in Baden-Baden (1980–86), and principal guest conductor and music adviser of the Pacific Sym. Orch. in Santa Ana, Calif. (1989–91).
